Postgraduate research programmes
Entry requirements
General requirements for undergraduate courses
Applicants offering the Secondary Education Certificate will normally require a foundation course for programmes in science and engineering disciplines.
Generally, we look for an overall average of 80% including 80% in key subjects. For example, for engineering degrees these would include maths and physics, as well as other science subjects.
General requirements for postgraduate/research courses
Students who have completed a first degree of four years duration can normally be considered for admission onto a one year masters degree.
Admissions Tutors typically look for an average mark of at least 65% for entry for masters level entry (at least 70% or higher for entry to certain subjects).
Students wishing to undertake a PhD will need to have previously studied at masters level which should have included a research dissertation/thesis or equivalent.
Students with particular combinations of academic performance and professional work experience may be eligible for consideration for postgraduate diploma programmes (where offered) in the first instance.
English language requirements
English Language requirements vary by course and department but are usually the equivalent of IELTS 6.0 – 7.5.
Some departments ask that the appropriate score has been met before you apply for a course whilst other departments give conditional offers subject to applicants achieving our general entry requirement level of English Language proficiency before starting the course.
Other entry requirements
Please note that this is generic information only. Faculties and Schools have different entry requirements and some qualifications may not be acceptable for certain courses, so it is important to check with the School directly before you apply.
Some courses have additional entry requirements such as previous work experience, submission of written work with the application or previous study of a particular subject.
