LiU International Scholarships

Linköping University offers sholarships to new students with excellent academic results. Scholarships within the programme LiU International Scholarships will result in a tuition fee waiver of 50-100 %
Who is eligible?

Students who have applied for master’s programmes at Linköping University
AND who have chosen a programme at Linköping University as the first priority (ranked as No.1 out of 4)
AND who are required to pay tuition fees

This scholarship programme is not open for students from the following 12 countries: Bangladesh, Bolivia, Burkina Faso, Cambodia, Ethiopia, Kenya, Mali, Mozambique, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia. Students from these countries should apply for the Swedish Institute Study Scholarship.

To apply for a LiU International Scholarship, you must first apply for the programme you wish to study at Linköping University using the online national application website, www.universityadmissions.se.
Application

Application for a LiU International Scholarship is made by by filling in the electronic application form on Linköping University’s website.
The application for the selected master’s programme(s) on www.universityadmissions.se must be made prior to making a scholarship application on Linköping University’s website, as necessary information for making the scholarship application is obtained during this process.

Scholarship applications will only be processed after the corresponding application for master’s programmes on www.universityadmissions.se has been completed, required documentation and the application fee has been received.
Only applicants fulfilling the eligibility requirements for the master¿s programme applied for will be considered for a scholarship.
All data entered in the scholarship application form must be verifiable by the documentation submitted in the national application process (www.universityadmissions.se).
For making a scholarship application, no additional documents are required.

Notification and mandatory confirmation requirement

Scholarship notifications will be announced by Linköping University on www.liu.se by end of March.
The scholarship receiver must confirm the offer by:

accepting the offered study place on  www.universityadmissions.se no later than 2 April
AND paying the remaining tuition fee no later than 1 June

Africa Initiative Graduate Research Grant

Students enrolled in a university in Canada

The Africa Initiative Graduate Research Grant program supports short-term academic placements for students enrolled in a Master’s and PhD program at a university in Canada.  The program offers grants of up to CAD$10,000 each to fifteen students per year to conduct field-based research for up to three months in Africa.

The Africa Initiative Graduate Research Grant program will be announcing a call for applications for research to be carried out in 2012 in the fall, 2011.
To be eligible

must have completed a bachelor’s degree in good academic standing
must be enrolled in a Master’s or PhD program at a Canadian university on a full-time basis
must be in good academic standing (with at least an overall B+, or equivalent average)
research must focus on one of the Africa Initiative’s thematic areas of conflict resolution, energy, food security, health, and migration, with special attention to the cross-cutting issue of climate change
applicant must obtain ethics clearance for proposed research from his/her home institution

Application requirements (all documents must be in English)

completed application form
proposal (maximum 5 pages) summarizing the applicant’s graduate research, including research objective, methodology and expected results and outputs; a timeline and proposed research plan to be carried out in Africa; and an overview of the capacity of the host institution contacts’ involvement with the applicant’s work while in the destination country
current CV
current university transcript
two letters of recommendation (one letter from the applicant’s academic advisor and an additional letter from other academic or professional sources; all references must be emailed by the referee to aiexchange@cigionline.org)
one letter of support from an organization the applicant plans to work with in the proposed destination country; the supporting letter must be in electronic format on the organization’s letterhead and should outline the name, title and contact information of the person signing it; it should also detail a preliminary action plan for the proposed research

one writing sample  – can be any written research work authored by the applicant
NOTE: The grant is available for research in the countries listed below. Proposals will not be approved in regions with travel advisories by the Canadian Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade (DFAIT) recommending to avoid non-essential or all travel. The grant may be withheld if a travel advisory arises after concession of the grant and before travel. Program expectations

Participants are expected to provide content for the Africa Initiative’s Africa Portal on a regular basis during their placement and write one major research paper for the Portal at the end of their placement.

Short Research Articles: Participants will submit short research articles once per month (three in total). Participants will be provided with select topics to choose from each month and will be expected to produce backgrounders for publication on the Africa Portal.

Major Research Paper: Participants will produce one major research paper based on their field-based research at the conclusion of their placement. Topic selection will be the responsibility of the participant, with the expectation that the topic aligns with one of the Africa Initiative’s thematic areas.

Presentation of Major Research Paper: Selected participants will be invited to present their research on a panel at the Africa Initiative’s conference planned for 2013, outlining the major findings, research, and publications resulting from the overall project.
